Wobble #10: Goodbye Goji
This Wednesday Wobble celebrates the 10th magazine, the art of Scott Franks, Goji Berry Jam playing their last gig and live VJ Mark Doughton.
Yep, Goodbye Goj! Their spell as a five piece, improv funk band has been stellar. They;'re unique to this city. Despite humbling calls to play more, the funksters are loosing Xavier Dunn due to the school of music cuts. Few people realise how important a conservatorium is to Canberra; this is another effect. But the musicians are happy to move forward - the gigs have
All at Hippo Bar.
Can't wait to see you,
Wobble
Wobble Jazz: The Jonty Hall Quartet
The Jonty Hall Quartet plays a suave mix of classic and contemporary jazz standards. Delving deep into the Great American Songbook and ending up in the territory of Wayne Shorter, the emphasis is on melody and swing. This is jazz for the whisky lovers- just don't mix it with coke!
Scott Franks has slaved away over canvas this month to colour our walls. Large as life, enjoy the art.
Wobble Jazz: KingRuby
More art, more incredible tunes and one massive change for Canberra's city centre. Keep an eye out as Hippo's new balcony extends out over Garema Pl!
Sounds like you've never heard before, join us for a Wednesday night Wobble.
With more Scott Franks art on the walls and KingRuby, a new four piece band consisting of local jazz musicians. Brought together through a love of electronic beat music, hip hop, jazz and general sonic experimentation, the band plays its own breed of improvised beat music.
With a line up of drums, bass, guitar and electronics, expect to hear slowly evolving grooves, fat bass lines, trance like guitar motifs accompanied by a very healthy dusting of synths and samples.
James O'Donnell - Drums
Max Alduca - Bass
Jack Palmer - Guitar
Tom Mansfield - Electronics
Can't wait to see you all there.

Wobble Jazz: Goji Berry
Wobble's Wednesday jazz offers up a healthy serving of Goji Berry Jam at Hippo bar.
Imagine an improvisation band with a repertoire of funk, jazz, blues, reggae, rock and psychedelic dub. A band focused on creating a vibe: adding beats, vocals or violin solos in response to the crowd.
After two years of hiding at the ANU, developing a new sound, Goji Berry Jam is now unveiled. Five classically and jazz trained musicians play with a shared passion for head nodding funk, intricate solos and killer covers.
Jazz is the order of the day for this gig, so Goji's jazz-trained musos will show their backgrounds with a distinct touch of funk.
Doors open at 5pm, for an 8pm performance, join us for a wild and wonderful night.
